The history of the Happy Train!
Eleanor Roosevelt said: “Since you get more joy out of giving joy to others, you should put a good deal of thought into the happiness that you are able to give.”
True story, my friends.
October 7, 1996 my father took his own life. Before doing so, it was his intention to take the life of my mother, my siblings and myself. Obviously and thankfully, because of the heroic acts of my mother that night, his intention did not come to fruition.
After he died my mother had six mouths to feed and a farm she couldn’t afford. As I am sure you can imagine, that was a very dark time for my family and happiness was hard to come by.
It used to be that every year in October I would start to get a little edgy and upset thinking about all that. However, one year, I decided no more. It was 2006 and I was 8 months pregnant with Fiona. I decided that was the month I would start again and rise above that tragedy. No longer would it take hold of me every year in October. My child would be born to a mother that celebrated joy in life and did not allow sadness to prevail.
What I did to overcome it was to spend all my energy and time and thoughts on others. I put as much effort as possible into helping others be happy, into showing my appreciation for others, and lending a helping hand wherever I could find a way! It changed my life. I was so overcome by joy from seeing others people happy that I didn’t even have time to wallow in my own drama.
My frown has been turned upside down and I now I look forward to October! I look forward to a month of full on fun, love, and joy!
When I started Space Girl Organics I figured I should bring y’all in on the fun. You know- enlist some partners in happiness! So in October I put little gifts in your boxes- happy train items- that will either make you smile or help you make someone else smile!
Each year when October rolls around I get downright giddy about springing a smile on y’all.
I am a spaz. A total spaz! In October you will see lots of fun and spaztastic love! However, let me be serious for a minute (a rare moment!) and tell you that from my heart I appreciate you. I appreciate the kindness you show week after week through your donations to our item of the week campaign. The smiles you spew by writing sweet emails or being nice on the phone. Thank you for being my customer and supporting my business. I feel very blessed to not only be able to do what I love in life but do it for people that are as amazing as you. (Ok, seriousness over… I shall go back to calling you foodie freaks now!!!!)
Now, come get on the HAPPY TRAIN with me!
Love,
Lucinda
