Making Your Own Organic and GMO Free Salad Dressing (Catalina Recipe)
Did you know that most store bought salad dressing contains canola oil and/or soybean oil? Did you know that a large amount of canola and soybean oils are genetically modified?
The only way to most likely avoid genetically modified oils in salad dressings is to buy organic dressing or make your own. Space Girl Organics sells organic olive oil as an add-on to your produce box. The oil is delicious and great quality and is great for making your own dressings and marinades.
Here is a recipe I used it for to make Catalina Salad Dressing
Catalina Dressing is a sweet tomato-onion dressing popular in the 1950’s. I like to use it as a dressing for spinach salads or broccoli slaw. My recipe uses about half the amount of sugar traditionally used for Catalina dressing.
- 1/2 cup organic tomato ketchup
- 1/4 cup organic sugar
- 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
- 1/2 cup onion chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup organic olive oil
- 1/8 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon pepper
Add all of the ingredients in a blender or food processor. Mix until well blended. Refrigerate until needed.
