Lucinda’s Rants- the newsletter

August 17, 2012Uncategorized Standard

Just in case you want to read my rants from the newsletter. Here it is. 🙂

HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES !?!

In case you don’t follow us on face crack facebook, let me give you the low down about this apple. It’s a pink pearl apple. It tastes like nature’s sweet tart. In addition to having them available as add on options this week you should know this:

“Because you are the apples of my eye! Because I believe that organic is for everyone, and I love to see normal “well behaved, upstanding, well mannered adults” get all kinds of giddy over fruit. I will be putting one of these in each of your boxes next week as a gift from your produce girl. (You will not see it listed in your box contents the free apple will magically appear in your box. :-))

They are rare, they are fun, they are quite expensive, but oh so exciting!
Did you just freak over an apple? That’s awesome.” (photo courtesy of this lady)

OLIVE OIL!

I recently added olive oil from Melina International as an add on option. Personally, I think everything is better with butter. However, my hips and heart would prefer I use more olive oil in my diet. So, get on the healthy train with me and add a bottle to your order.

HONEY!

Hey honey, we have honey! 1lb honey from Dansk Farms in Winter Park. It’s raw, it’s delicious, it’s sweet and wonderful!

(This is me in my bee suit. I know, I know- hotness! ) Honey is a big deal on my family farm.  Why? Because they pollinate the plants. If you want to make a big difference in the farming community- support the bees and bee keepers.

So, Speaking of honey. I have a funny story to tell you.

A year or so ago Mr. King Carnivore had a bee issue. Well, that is what he called it anyway. You see, bees had come in through his chimney and over the course of months and maybe even years they had built a home in his living room ceiling. By the time he realized they were there, he had so many of them that he had to call in the professionals. “Bees in your ceiling? That’s awesome.” I said. I coordinated my schedule to be there when they were relocating the bees.

As the beekeepers were cutting into the ceiling and relocating the bees, I smelled honey! This is how the conversation went.

Me: If there is any clean honeycomb please keep it so I can have it!

Beekeepers: To Eat?

Me: Well, of course!

KC: She isn’t crazy. Well, she is, but in a good way. She is all about eating locally.

Beekeepers: Well, you aren’t going to get more local than your own ceiling.

Ceiling honey. Uh-mazing. Don’t worry. Dansk Farms honey is from bees that live in hives outside. 🙂

COFFEE!

For a few weeks now we have been offering SweetWater Organics Coffee. We have had the strong, dark and handsome Midnight oil blend available. That’s because I like my coffee strong! However, you spoke and I listened. We now have, in addition to the midnight oil, Carpe Diem whole bean available. It’s a a smoother roast, not as dark, but just as handsome!

Item of the Week!

This week’s item of the week is toothpaste.  If you have any extra to donate, please leave it in your cooler and we will pick it up when we drop off your produce, then get it to the Shelter to be distributed to the homeless.

Coolers and Cooler Bags!

If you are a groupon customer, your box will be delivered in our regular packaging and we will NOT leave a cooler bag. Please oh, please leave a cooler out for us.

We strongly suggest you leave a cooler out for us. All delveries are now being made in a cooler bag.  We will leave the cooler bag in your cooler and swap it out the next week. As long as you leave these out for us each week you will never be charged.

However, if you don’t leave it out for us we will have to charge a $10.00 deposit until you do. As I prefer rainbows and sunshine over being mean ol school marm, please leave them out so smiles can abound!

If the threats of you being charged for these bags aren’t working- know that when Matthew sends me the list of the people that didn’t return them he titles it “slacker list or fail train list.” You really don’t want to be a on THAT list, DO YOU?

Cheers and Happy Organic Eats!

Lucinda and The Crew.
