Kumquats!
Looking for a way to take your culinary life to the extreme, send your taste buds on a crazy roller coaster ride, and an adrenaline rush at your kitchen table? Well then, you should have a kumquat.
Seriously…thou shall not disrespect the kumquat. If you lackadaisically pop one of these bad boys in your mouth without giving proper thought about what is about to happen to your taste buds you will might just find yourself saying “Whoa, what just happened to me?” I am speaking from experience here people.
They are not for the faint at heart. They are tart, and sweet, and freakishly amazing. You eat them skin and all. Please allow me to go all “produce mama” on you and give you a few tips on how to eat them that I strongly suggest you follow. These little things are about the size of a kiwi berry, before you eat one – roll it in your hand, somewhat smashing it and releasing the oils. The skin is the sweet part, and the inside is tart as all get out. You eat the entire thing, skin and all but you should spit out the seeds. If you find you can’t handle their flavor explosion straight up, dip them in a touch of honey first OR blend them with water and honey for a refreshing drink.
