How to ripen Organic Peaches!
Peach season has begun! Woohoo! My favorite! Please allow me give you a few produce mama tips about organic peaches so you can have that perfect peachy moment of deliciousness when you bite into one.
Organic peaches are VERY susceptible to mold, actually they can pick up all sorts of diseases during growing and most of them do not even make it off the tree. They are one of the absolute hardest things to grow organically because they are not sprayed with fungicides, pesticides and nasty- cides. They can easily pick up mold spores from your house and go moldy before they even ripen.
However, with a few easy steps you can avoid the mold issues and have lovely peaches all season long!
When they arrive at your house in your produce box they will be firm and need to ripen. Here’s how to help them along while decreasing your chances of them collecting mold.
- Remove them from your box right way and make sure to dry them off gently removing any moisture they might have accumulated on them during transit.
- Place them in a loosely sealed brown paper bag. Do not put any other fruit in with them.
- Leave them on the counter at room temp to ripen. Check them daily and when they’re ripe, use them up within a few days or cut and freeze them.
