Apple Spice Juice and Pumpkin Spice Smoothie
A guest post from our customer Lauren:
Fall is here, and for many of us that means indulging on delicious treats. While treating yourself in moderation is good, many of us tend to overindulge in all the goodies during the holiday season. Luckily, you can get your fix of your favorite fall treats with these equally indulgent juice and smoothie recopies. They will have you satisfied and energized instead of satiated and sleepy. Use these recipes to help keep your health in-check this season a midst the chaos and festivities that usually come about this time of year. I hope you enjoy these recipes as much as I do!
Apple Spice Juice
This indulgent juice is an easy take on an apple-carrot juice recipe. The apples have amazing anticancer benefits while the carrots will have amazing effects on your skin. Adding in cinnamon turns this drink into a super drink! Cinnamon has been long used in Chinese and Ayurvedic Medicine and has abilities to lower bad cholesterol, lowing blood sugar, preventing blood clots (be careful ingesting cinnamon if you are on blood thinners, ask your doctor first), and helps relieve arthritis pain (2010, organicauthority.com). As you can see, there are many reasons to incorporate cinnamon into your daily routine!
This recipe is delicious and can easily be altered into a raw cider by replacing the carrots with 2-3 apples or pears.
- 3 apples ( I used the Arkansas Blacks from our Space Girl Organics produce box!)
- 5-7 large organic juicing carrots
- ½ inch knuckle ginger
- ½ teaspoon to 1 teaspoon Cinnamon (as desired, to taste)
Juice Carrots and Apples, stir in desired Cinnamon, and drink up!
FYI: the shreds from this recipe can be used to make an amazing carrot cake, or spiced muffins! Shreds without ginger in them can be mixed into your dog’s food for additional health benefits for your pup!
Pumpkin Spice Smoothie
Yes, you can have the best of both worlds (healthy and indulgent) with this delicious smoothie! Pumpkin is a great source of vitamins A, K, and C and minerals iron, potassium, and magnesium which are major players in eye, bone, heart, and blood health (2013, indiatimes.com). I like to amp up this recipe with Chia Seeds, which are great for your digestive system, and full of healthy Omega 3s. Furthermore, the Maca root powder adds energy boosting properties and helps balance hormones. Adding protein powder and coconut water just take this smoothie to the next level, making in perfect for a post-workout drink. Honestly, with all the goodies in this amazing smoothie, you might consider substituting this smoothie out for pumpkin pie at least once this season!
- ½ banana (fresh or frozen)
- ½ cup organic pureed pumpkin
- ½ teaspoon maca root powder
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- Proper serving size of your favorite protein powder
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¾ teaspoon ground ginger
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon ground cloves
- 2 tablespoons honey or agave
- ¼ cup of soy milk/almond milk

Alternatively, pumpkin pie spice can be used instead of the spices listed. Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!
